Predictability Patient satisfaction rate after the mastopexy procedure is high.
Choice of incisions There are a number of different techniques available for breast lifting. The traditional technique involves the use of a ‘wise pattern’ skin incision, which results in an anchor-shaped scar on the breast. The more modern technique of breast reduction is known as the ‘vertical mammaplasty’ and results in much less scarring, (lollipop scar).
Downtime The operation is typically performed on an outpatient basis at a surgery centre. Patients who have breast lifting with or without breast implants can resume most normal daily activities within just a few days of the surgery. It is necessary to refrain from vigorous physical activities such as aerobics, jogging and Pilates until about six weeks after the surgical procedure.
Complications Potential complications include hematomas, infections, diminished sensation of the nipple or breast skin and unsatisfactory scarring. In patients who receive implants, there is also the potential risk of capsular contracture and implant rupture. These complications can all be treated successfully but may require additional surgery.
Cost: Depends on breast shape and the techniques used.
