When can I start palliative care?
Palliative care is not related to your prognosis and there is no reason to wait; you can receive it alongside the treatments for your illness. Symptoms, especially pain, can lower the quality of your life and the stress can impact on your and your family’s happiness. We are here to help you manage your symptoms and to be as comfortable as possible.
Can I have ventilator care at home?
Our home-care nurses are trained to provide specialty care to patients with medically complex needs. Some of our patients require the use of a ventilator to maintain adequate breathing and sustain their life. It is extremely important that the nurse in these cases are competent and have both up-to-date knowledge and experience with the latest medical technology. We ensure our nurses are properly trained in all aspects and that they are able to work well with patients and their families facing the challenges associated with life on a ventilator.
Many of our ventilator-dependent patients cared for at home are children, meaning there are additional challenges in creating an environment that nurtures normal growth, socialization and development. Often our nurses are employed to accompany a child using a ventilator to school and to their other activities.
