Laparoscopic Salpingectomy in Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Al Ain

Overview

Laparoscopic salpingectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that involves removing one or both fallopian tubes. Unilateral salpingectomy removes one fallopian tube, while Bilateral salpingectomy involves removing both tubes.

When an egg is fertilized, it travels through the fallopian tubes to reach the uterus. After a laparoscopic salpingectomy, eggs will no longer be able to pass through the tubes, which might make getting pregnant in the future more challenging.

What are the reasons for having a laparoscopic salpingectomy?

This procedure is used to treat various medical conditions, including fallopian tube disorders, endometriosis, ectopic pregnancies, and uterine, breast, or ovarian cancer. Because the most severe forms of ovarian cancer generally begin in the fallopian tubes, removing your fallopian tubes can help prevent these tumors in women. If you do not want to get pregnant in the future, this procedure can also prevent getting pregnant permanently.

How to prepare for a Laparoscopic salpingectomy?

During your consultation, our gynecologist will go over the procedure with you, as well as pre-operative instructions. These instructions may differ depending on your age and overall health.

You should make arrangements for transportation to and from the hospital. You should also avoid eating or drinking after midnight the night before your surgery. You may be asked to refrain from taking blood thinners over a period of time.

What happens during a laparoscopic salpingectomy?

The procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed under local or general anesthesia.

During the surgery, a laparoscope, which is a thin tube with a light and camera at its end, is inserted through a tiny incision in the abdomen to allow the doctor to see the area more clearly. The surgeon will then inflate your belly with gas to examine your uterus and fallopian tubes in greater detail.

The fallopian tubes are removed using surgical instruments inserted through other small incisions in your abdomen. Your surgeon will then close the wounds with stitches after removing the excess blood and fluid.

What to expect after a laparoscopic salpingectomy?

You will be given a prescription for pain medication and instructions on how to care for the stitches after the procedure. You may be able to leave the hospital on the same day, but you should avoid strenuous activities and anything that puts strain on your abdomen for at least 1 to 2 weeks.
