What We Treat

Breast Reduction in RAK and Fujairah

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure that involves removing excess breast fat, tissue, and skin to reduce the size of your breasts. This surgery may be a good option if you wish to achieve a breast size that is more in proportion with your body or relieve the discomfort associated with having large breasts. Additionally, breast reduction may boost your confidence and enhance your capacity for physical activity. It’s also possible for men with abnormally enlarged male breasts to get breast reduction surgery.

Am I a suitable candidate for this procedure?

You may be ready for breast reduction surgery if you have large breasts that make you self-conscious about your appearance or are causing persistent back, neck, and shoulder pain. Suitable candidates include those who are in good physical health and are not pregnant or nursing. You should put off having a breast reduction if you intend to lose weight or have children in the future.

What to expect before the procedure?

During your consultation, our plastic surgeon will review your medical history and overall health to ensure that you are suitable for the procedure. They will examine, take pictures, and measure your breasts to determine how much breast tissue will need to be removed to meet your goals. You may be asked to complete lab tests or get a mammogram before the procedure.

The doctor will advise you to refrain from smoking and taking certain medications, such as aspirin for a certain period before and after the surgery to avoid complications. They will also recommend you arrange for someone to drive you home and accompany you on the night after the procedure.

How is the procedure performed?

The duration of the breast reduction procedure, which usually lasts 2 to 5 hours, depends on your health, breast composition, the desired amount of tissue removal, and the surgeon’s recommendations. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia.

The surgeon starts by making an incision around the nipple and down each breast. They then remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin, reshape the breast, and realign the nipple and areola to reduce the size of each breast. In cases of extremely large breasts, the nipple may need to be removed and reattached at a higher location as a skin graft. Additionally, the doctor may use liposuction to help with the removal of excess fat in your breasts. Liposuction can be used on its own to remove excess fat in the breasts in rare cases.

Stitches are placed deep within the breast tissue to provide support, and the incisions are brought together and closed to reshape the smaller breasts and reposition the nipple and areola.

What to expect after the procedure?

After the procedure, you may experience fatigue and breast soreness. You should take at least two weeks off from work or school because it can take up to six weeks to fully recover. Our surgeon will prescribe painkillers and advise you to avoid strenuous activities for at least a month following surgery as you heal. You will need to schedule a follow-up appointment with the doctor to have your stitches removed after a week or two.

Even though you’ll see some improvement immediately away, remember that the swelling and surgical scars will fade with time. Aging and weight gain or loss may cause changes in breast shape and size, but these changes are usually permanent, and the patient satisfaction rate following breast reduction is very high.
