What is CoolSculpting?
It is an effective type of treatment used for fat reduction that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). CoolSculpting is also known as Cryolipolysis and it breaks down fat cells by using temperatures that are extremely cold to the point of freezing. The temperature used does not have an impact on the other cells in the body. Hence, the underlying tissue and skin are completely safe. Additionally, the procedure is non-invasive, non-surgical, and when the fat cells are frozen then the body will naturally get rid of the dead cells in the span of 1 to 3 months or more. This results in up to 20% to 25% fat reduction in the treated area.
The healthcare provider will vacuum the skin located above the region that has the fatty tissue. The fat cells are frozen in this process. The area that is being treated will be numbed by the freezing temperature, this, in turn, creates a cooling sensation.
The procedure takes approximately one hour and no downtime is required. Post-procedure it will take the fat cells about 4 to 6 months to leave the patient’s body. During this time, the fat in the area that was treated will reduce by a certain amount as indicated by the practitioner.
People that are interested in this form of fat reduction treatment usually come in to treat one or more of the following areas:
- Lower back.
This procedure is not used to treat obesity. However, it can help extract any extra stubborn fat that is difficult to get rid of by other means such as exercising and dieting.
If you have any of the following conditions then you should not opt for this form of treatment:
- Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.
- Cold agglutinin disease.
It is very important to be transparent with your healthcare provider before going ahead with the procedure so that they can guide you in the right manner.
Stubborn fat is usually the fat that is under the skin. You can pinch it and it is known as the subcutaneous fat. It can be extremely frustrating to deal with stubborn fat, as it is not easy to get rid of – despite being committed to eating healthy and working out regularly.
Technically, the results last indefinitely as the procedure destroys fat cells and they don’t return. However, if the patient gains weight post-treatment then they will gain the fat back in the treated area or even other areas. Therefore, a healthy lifestyle is essential to help keep up with the results of the procedure. If the individual does not exercise regularly or has an unhealthy eating pattern then they are very likely to see the lost fat return soon.
Are there any side effects?
Yes, it is possible to have some short-term side effects, such as:

A couple of things are vital to help ensure the best results possible are achieved, such as proper planning and recurring sessions. The procedure also has the following benefits:
- No downtime required.
