What We Treat

Mid facelift

Mid Facelift in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

The tissues over the cheekbones and beneath the eyelids start to sag and lose volume with age, which leads to flatter cheekbones, hollower lower eyelids, and deeper nasolabial folds.

The mid-facelift, also called the cheek lift, is a facial rejuvenation procedure used to treat the sagging of the cheeks and the skin around them, which is one of the earliest indicators of facial aging in the middle part of the face. The aesthetic issues in the midface, such as flat cheeks, volume loss, hollow eyes, nasolabial folds, and vertical lip lines, are the focus of a mid-facelift. By raising the cheeks, shaping the cheekbones, and filling in the empty regions behind the eyes, the procedure can help the center of the face look more youthful.

A mid-facelift can be done on its own or in conjunction with other complementary cosmetic surgery procedures like eyelid surgery or a brow lift.

What is the difference between a facelift and a mid-facelift?

While the facelift and the mid-facelift have the same goal of rejuvenating one’s facial appearance, the difference between the two methods involves the extent of the areas which are treated.

A mid-facelift, also known as a “cheek lift”, focuses mainly on the cheek region. This procedure improves issues as:

  • Loose skin in the mid-portion of the face
  • Loose muscular structure and lines in the mid-face
  • Nasolabial creases
  • Loose skin around the eyes
  • Wrinkles
  • Facial volume loss

A facelift can treat issues around all areas that a mid-facelift can, with the addition of areas around the mouth, along the jawline, and more.

A mid-facelift can be an excellent option for patients whose cosmetic concerns are limited to cheeks and the mid-face area whereas a facelift is a better option for patients whose concerns extend from the jawline to just above the cheeks. If a patient wishes to focus on reducing signs of aging in the eye and/or forehead region, they may want to consider combining their facelift procedure with an eyebrow lift surgery and/or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) as neither facelift technique will enhance the upper area of the face.

Am I a suitable candidate for this procedure?

You may be ready for a mid-facelift if you have sagging cheeks, deep nasolabial folds, or vertical lip wrinkles and want to revitalize the middle part of your face. Suitable candidates for the procedure should be in good general health, not smoke, and have reasonable expectations about the procedure’s results.

After a successful consultation, Novomed’s team of highly experienced expert plastic surgeons provide all patients with realistic expectations in what can be achieved for each patient’s unique case. The surgery date is only confirmed when the patient has a clear and detailed understanding of their surgery plan and mid-facelift recovery process. Patients will be provided pre- and post-operative instructions ahead of time to be well prepared for their surgery.

What can I expect during the procedure?

A mid-facelift is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes around two hours to complete.

The plastic surgeon will start by making small incisions over your ear and along your hairline on each side of your face and insert an endoscopic camera through these incisions. Muscles and fat pads in your face will be tightened and locked into a younger position. The overlying skin layer will then be carefully pulled back over your face by the doctor, who will tighten it and trim away any excess skin. Lastly, they will use specialized suturing methods to repair your incisions, minimizing skin damage and restoring your normal facial anatomy.

Recovery Timeline

Swelling, bruising, and loss of sensation of the skin are common occurrences with any surgical procedure; however, with a plastic surgeon specializing in facial surgeries, the downtime may be minimized.

Each patient heals differently depending on a variety of factors, but typically swelling and bruising will reduce after 7 to 14 days.
Some residual tightness and swelling may be present at 3 to 4 weeks after the surgery, but for the most part, patients start to look and feel much better. At this time, patients begin to see real improvements in their facial contour. Here they can get back to low impact exercise and experiencing activities without others noticing external signs of the patient having undergone a procedure.

After the 1-month mark, patients tend to begin enjoying life with their new look and resuming normal activities. The face will continue to heal and refine over time and can take up to one year for very minor tightness, numbness, and swelling to completely subside.

FAQ

How long do the effects of a mid-facelift last?

When compared to other anti-aging cosmetic treatments like injectable fillers, mid-facelift results are durable. In most cases, patients do not require “top-up” midface lifting treatments.

Is having a mid-facelift painful?

Patients will not experience any discomfort because they will be under general anesthesia during the procedure.

Are mid-facelifts different from facelifts?

They are two different procedures. A mid-facelift addresses the area of the face in the middle, from the upper lip down to the area below the eyelids and around the cheekbones. On the other hand, a facelift concentrates on the bottom area of the face (mouth, neck, and jowls).

Are mid-facelifts effective?

The skin around the cheeks can be tightened quite well with mid-facelifts, and most patients are happy with the outcomes. Results often last for ten years.
