What are the types of implants?
Silicone Implants
Silicone gel-filled breast implants or cohesive gel silicone gel-filled breast implants are filled with elastic, soft gel. They are pre-filled and require a slightly longer incision than saline-filled implants. Cohesive gel silicone gel-filled implants have been used since 1992 and were approved by the FDA in 2012.
Saline Implants
Saline-filled implants may be pre-filled to a predetermined size or filled during the procedure. They are filled with sterile salt water. What to expect during the consultation for breast augmentation?
You will meet with a plastic surgeon to discuss your breast size, feel, and cosmetic choices. How to prepare for breast augmentation surgery?

How is breast augmentation surgery performed?
After preparing you for surgery and giving you the appropriate medications, the anesthesiologist will administer a general anesthetic, which means you will be sleeping for the procedure.
The surgeon will make an incision in the armpit area to not leave scars on the breast. They will then insert the implant into a pocket under or above the pectoralis muscle. The method of insertion and placement of the implant depends on the type of implant used, the desired level of augmentation, and your body type.
After inserting the implant, the surgeon will repair the incision with stitches and close it with skin adhesive and surgical tape. The incision mark will become less visible over time, and its location under the arm will keep it hidden.
What happens after surgery?
You will be taken to the recovery area immediately after surgery to monitor your condition. After making sure that your condition is stable, you should be able to go home, usually after an hour or so.
Before leaving the hospital, you will be given specific instructions for your recovery period. The doctor will prescribe some medications to improve the healing process, including pain relievers and antibiotics.
During the recovery period, you will wear a supporting garment (a bra or an elastic bandage) to reduce swelling and support the breasts as they heal. Since it is possible to bleed into the pockets around breast implants in the early days, you should avoid strenuous activities and wait until you get permission from your physician to increase your activity level. Acute pain usually subsides after one to five days, but you may have mild pain and swelling for a few weeks.

Although breast augmentation gives immediate results, the final results may take a few weeks for the swelling to subside and the skin to stretch.
