Dimples are considered by many as a sign of beauty, and they occur naturally because of a defect in the cheek muscle that causes the skin to get pulled towards the connective tissue when smiling, laughing or talking. Luckily, our plastic surgeons at Novomed can help you achieve this desired look thanks to the dimple creation surgery.
Dimpleplasty, also known as dimple creation surgery, is a simple cosmetic procedure that allows you to have the dimples you have always wanted. It is done as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with little to no downtime, which means you can resume your activities on the same day of the surgery.
Am I a suitable candidate for Dimpleplasty?
The ideal candidate for this procedure is someone who enjoys good health, is above the age of 18, and has realistic expectations about what can be achieved with dimpleplasty. It should be noted that the healing process will be quick with no complications if the patient refrained from smoking.
Dimple creation is performed purely for cosmetic reasons, and it is a good option for those who:
- Want to improve their self-image
- Want to enhance their smile with the signature dimples look
- Have some skin laxity in their cheeks
How to prepare for the surgery?
Before the surgery, you will have a consultation with our plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and expectations about the surgery, explain the dimple creation procedure in detail, and make sure that it is suitable for you.
What happens during the surgery?
Dimpleplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia, which means that you will not feel any pain or discomfort.
The surgeon places a biopsy instrument against the inner cheek (buccal mucosa) and makes a circular incision in the cheek muscles to remove tissue and create the dimple look, leaving the facial skin intact.
The procedure takes around 1 hour, after which you will be able to go home once the effect of anesthesia wears off. You may feel some swelling and bruising after the procedure, but that will resolve within few days.
The sutures used to close the incision will dissolve within 14 days after surgery, and once the healing process is complete, the check muscle will connect with the skin and create natural-looking dimples.
Does this surgery leave any scars?
No. since the incision is made on the inner cheek, you will be left with no scars.
