Anal Itching Treatment in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

What is anal itching?

Anal itching is a common condition that can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. In most cases, the itching in the anus or the area around the anus is severe and may be accompanied by an urgent need to scratch.

Anal itching can be caused by many factors, such as skin problems, hemorrhoids, and excessive or insufficient washing.

If anal itching persists, talk to your doctor. Most people will fully recover from anal itching with proper treatment and self-care measures.

What are the common symptoms of anal itching?

Anal itching may be associated with redness, burning sensation, and pain. The itching and irritation may be temporary or persistent, depending on the cause.

Most cases of anal itching do not require medical attention. However, you should visit a proctologist in the following cases:

  • If the anal itching is severe or persistent
  • If you suffer from rectal bleeding or involuntary passing of stool
  • If the anal area appears to have an infection
  • If you do not know what is causing the persistent itch

What are the causes of anal itching?

Possible causes of anal itching include:

  • Irritants. Prolonged fecal incontinence and diarrhea can irritate the skin. Or your skincare routine may include irritating products or behaviors, such as using harsh soaps or moisturizing wipes and washing with great force.
  • Infections. Such as sexually transmitted infections, yeast infections, and pinworms.
  • Skin conditions. Anal itching can be caused by a skin condition, such as psoriasis or contact dermatitis.
  • Other medical conditions. These include diabetes, thyroid disease, hemorrhoids, and anal tumors.

What does the diagnosis of anal itching involve?

Your doctor may be able to diagnose the cause of itching by asking you about your symptoms, medical history, and personal habits. If a pinworm infection is suspected, your doctor may suggest tests to detect pinworms. You may also need a physical examination, including a rectal exam.

How to treat anal itching?

The treatment for anal itching depends on the cause of the problem. Treatment may include self-care measures, such as using an over-the-counter anti-itch cream or treating an infection or hemorrhoid.

If symptoms get worse at night, taking an oral antihistamine may help relieve the itch until the anti-itch cream is effective.

With proper care, most people with anal itching feel better. See a doctor if itching persists.
