Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What causes varicose veins and how are they treated?
Varicose veins occur when the valves in veins weaken, causing blood to pool and veins to enlarge. Treatments range from conservative measures, such as compression stockings, leg elevation, exercise; to minimally invasive procedures like radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy, laser vein removal, or surgical vein stripping.

2. What should I expect during hernia (laparoscopic) surgery and recovery?
Laparoscopic hernia repair is done through small incisions using cameras and fine instruments, with a recovery time typically faster compared to open surgery. Many patients can resume light activities within days, while full activity may take a few more weeks.

3. Does a varicose vein treatment procedure hurt, and when will I see improvement?
Minimally invasive treatments are designed to be relatively painless and many patients report little discomfort during and after the procedure.
Relief symptoms, such as reduced heaviness, pain, and swelling, may begin immediately after the procedure, while the full benefits may take one to two weeks to appear.

4. Are varicose veins just a cosmetic issue or can they be serious?
In many cases, varicose veins are indeed a cosmetic concern. However, left untreated, they can lead to symptoms like aching, swelling, skin discoloration, ulcers, or clotting.

5. Will my hernia come back after surgery, and how can recurrence be prevented?
Recurrence is possible depending on the surgical technique and factors like obesity, lifting heavy weights and chronic cough, that’s why choosing the appropriate surgical method and following post-operative guidance reduces the risk. Also, lifestyle changes, such as maintaining healthy weight, avoiding heavy lifting, quitting smoking can help prevent recurrence.
