What is Mindfulness Based CBT?

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Mindfulness-Based CBT) is a
therapeutic approach that blends two well-established methods:

1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
CBT helps people identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that
contribute to emotional distress (for example, negative self-talk or avoidance
patterns).

2. Mindfulness Practices:
Mindfulness trains you to notice thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in the
present moment with curiosity and without judgment—skills often taught through
breathing exercises, meditation, or gentle movement.

Key Features
• Awareness of thoughts: Instead of trying to suppress or fight thoughts, you learn to
observe them as passing mental events.

• Non-attachment: You practice seeing thoughts and feelings as temporary, not as facts
or as part of your identity.

• Acceptance: Emphasis on accepting experiences rather than avoiding them, which
can reduce rumination and anxiety.
