Hysteroscopic Septum Resection in Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Al Ain

Overview

A septate uterus is a thin tissue membrane that divides the uterus into two separate parts. This uterine deformity occurs during pregnancy and can cause female infertility, preterm birth and recurrent miscarriage.

A septate uterus doesn’t cause any symptoms other than a miscarriage or recurrent miscarriage and is usually diagnosed while investigating the cause of miscarriages or during a routine pelvic exam when the septum extends to the cervix and vagina.

Women who have their septate uterus surgically removed will be able to avoid miscarriage and give birth to their conceived child. Hysteroscopic septum resection, also known as hysteroscopic metroplasty, can be performed to restore the anatomy of the uterus and improve pregnancy outcomes.

What are the benefits of a hysteroscopic septum resection?

This procedure offers several advantages, including:

  • Simple and minimally invasive procedure.
  • Quick recovery time
  • Restoring the normal shape and function of the uterus.
  • Improving fertility and pregnancy rates.

During your consultation, our gynecologist will review your medical history and perform a physical examination of your pelvic area. If you have had repeated miscarriages, they will perform tests such as ultrasound scans or MRIs to determine the cause of the miscarriage. They may also take an X-ray of your uterus and the surrounding area to rule out other underlying conditions.

What happens during the procedure?

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about one hour. It involves minimal discomfort and blood loss because it is done through small incisions, which allows patients can go home on the same day of the surgery.

The surgeon will gently stretch the cervix while you are sedated and then guide the hysteroscope, a thin tube with a camera at its end that allows the doctor to see the inside of the uterus, into your uterus through the vaginal opening, and another instrument is inserted to cut away and remove the septum.
