Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) also referred to as Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), are the infections you get through sexual contact with another person. There are more than 20 known types of STDs/STIs and, luckily, most can be treated and cured.
STD CAUSES
Unprotected sexual intercourse is the most common way to get an STD but they can also be transmitted through oral or anal sex practices.
Symptoms
There may be no symptoms, but if there are, these are some of the ones commonly seen in men:
- Pain around the pelvis
- Burning or itching in the penis
- Discharge from the penis
- Sores, bumps or blisters on the penis, anus, or mouth
- Burning and pain with urine or with bowel movements
- Having to relieve yourself often
STD Diagnosis
Diagnosis is done through a combination of clinical examination and lab testing. We may take a sample of fluid from the penis or blood to test in order to confirm the problem. These tests can show what, if any, bacterial or viral infections are present. It is very important to know the exact cause so you can receive appropriate treatment.
