What is a facelift?
Facelift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that can help you look younger by reversing signs of aging in your face. It can decrease sagging or folds of the skin on the cheeks and jawline and other changes in the contour of your face that occur with age.
A facelift is frequently paired with a neck lift to minimize sagging skin or fat deposits on the neck, giving the patient a more youthful appearance.
What are the benefits of a facelift?
A facelift procedure can be beneficial to you if you are looking to:
- Tighten sagging skin around the cheeks and jawline.
- Refine the shape of your jawline.
- Have natural-looking and long-lasting results.
- Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Am I a good candidate for a facelift?
You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you are in good general health and have reasonable expectations and a positive mindset.
The choice of surgical and nonsurgical treatments for a facelift depends on the current state of your facial skin. During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will listen to your desired outcomes and recommend the best approach for you.
How do I prepare for a facelift procedure?
During the consultation, your doctor will ask you about past and current medical conditions, previous surgeries, smoking history, alcohol usage, and which medications you are taking. Your plastic surgeon will also take photos of your face from different angles and perform a facial exam. Lastly, they will ask you about your expectations for the outcomes of the facelift procedure.
To properly prepare for your facelift, you should follow pre-surgery instructions given by the doctor and arrange for someone to drive you home after the surgery.
How is a facelift procedure performed?
The plastic surgeon performs the facelift procedure under local or general anesthesia. Your physician will recommend the best choice for you. A facelift usually takes two to four hours, but it could take longer if other cosmetic procedures, such as a neck lift, are being performed simultaneously.
A facelift involves pulling back a flap of skin on each side of the face and surgically modifying the tissues below the skin to restore the contour of the face to a more youthful shape. The surgeon then removes excess skin before the flap is sutured closed.
The incision lines following a facelift are well hidden inside the hairline and in the natural contours of the face. The benefits of a facelift become apparent once the swelling and bruises have subsided. Your result should help you feel more confident about yourself and restore a younger and more rested appearance.
There are different facelift procedures. The surgeon will choose the right one depending on which parts of the face and neck are targeted. Types of facelift surgeries include:
Incisions are made around your ears, hairline, and below your chin in a traditional facelift. Your skin is separated from the underlying tissues, and the muscles and other supporting structures of your face and neck are tightened. The surgeon also removes extra fat from your neck and jowls as needed. Your skin is then naturally repositioned across your face, and any excess skin is removed. This procedure is recommended for patients who desire to improve the appearance of moderate to severe facial aging.
Deep plane facelift:
The deep plane facelift is the most widely performed procedure. It lifts the skin and muscle tissue to correct skin laxity, sagging under the chin, and heavy cheeks. Research shows that patients who undergo this surgery appear five years younger.
A mini-facelift lifts the lower face and neck. It’s a less invasive and shorter procedure than other facelift procedures. Doctors usually recommend mini-facelifts for younger individuals who have only minor signs of facial sagging.
What to expect during recovery?
Your facial plastic surgeon will give you specific post-operative advice, such as sleeping with your head up and without applying cosmetics to your face.
It is normal to experience some tolerable pain, soreness, and fatigue during the first few days of recovery. Your surgeon will prescribe the appropriate medication to manage your symptoms during this time.
Most patients still have some swelling and bruising around the affected areas during the second week of recovery. Loss of feeling, tightness, and tingling are all common side effects. Some patients return to work and their normal activities by the end of the second week.
You should be able to enjoy your new look about 4 weeks after your facelift surgery. It is critical to follow your surgeon’s recommendations to recover as quickly as possible.
What is the cost of the procedure?
The facelift cost varies, and each patient’s case is different. Your surgeon will design a surgery plan specifically for you. Only then can you estimate the total cost of your procedure. We recognize that paying for cosmetic surgery in one full payment might be challenging. That is why Novomed has designed flexible payment plans that allow customers to pay over 3, 6, or 12 months with 0% interest rates with NBD, Emirates Islamic Bank, ADCB, FAB, and Al Futtaim credit cards.
